Road Hog

So, I've been driving a lot recently (see previous post) and I started a mental note of my list of the worst drivers. Now I'm not going to start talking about men vs women; too many people say women are always putting makeup on and mess up driving. To tell you the truth I know quite a lot of men that I would never get in a car with; no guys you can't drive 90 while talking on one cellphone, emailing on your blackberry and drinking coffee...

Anyway I have a list in my head of the worst drivers, by states. I thought I would share them with you readers out there. Now I know some will be pissed off, some will agree and most will not give a &^$) . I also have not seen all the drivers in all the state, so I'm sure there are some other crazes out there (please share).
My list in order of the worst drivers:
1) New Jersey
2) Rhode Island (per capita it would be the worst)
3) Massachusetts
4) Florida
5) New York
6) California
7) Alabama
8) Washington DC (yes I know it's not a state, however they drive so bad they made the list)
9)Pennsylvania
10) Oklahoma

Also, all the provinces of Canada (every time I see a Canuck on the road I do my best to get away)

Michigan should top the list. If you haven't driven here don't! We don't use our turn signals, we drive 90 MPH in a construction zone (which is always) and Stop signs with white borders are considered optional.

Happy motoring!

I would have to put Florida at the top of that list. Many people from FLA are retired and don't give a shit about the laws of the road anymore. Stop signs just don't apply to them. Second on my list would be Pennsylvania, but it's not really their fault that their state doesn't put acceleration lanes when merging onto highways, so it's not really their fault that they STOP at YIELD signs. Third would be a tie of DC/Maryland/Virginia. I was born & raised in the "DC Metro Area" and currently live in VA, but 90% of the people around here aren't from around here and, like FLA, just don't care who they piss off on the road. It is very much like renegade driving around here.

I don't like to be too mean but diplomat tags tend to be terrible drivers. I'm also from the DC metro area and whether driving or just plain old walking around the metro and downtown, diplomats and tourists are terrible at getting around in an efficient manner.

1.I would say that Ohio drivers don't do too hot. 2. Mr Sean is right about Michigan. It doesn't help that they live a life of one way streets either and some of the worst roads in America. So maybe they are just frustrated. 3.East Tennessee, we are construction capital of the South, AND people like to drive like their favorite NASCAR heroes.

I can't believe you have my home state of Alabama as #7. It should be #1. People here cannot drive. When I was growing up in Huntsville, there was a large German population and they drive like they are on the Autobahn - as a matter of fact so does everybody else. (No offense to Germans, my great grandmother was from Germany). Georgia drivers are pretty bad also.

OK, I live in NJ so I can safely say that NJ drivers are HORRIBLE. That being said, NY drivers are the worst only because they love to come to NJ to shop and then take over the road, giving us attitude with it.

A-men to what has been said about DC area.

The diplomats are morons.

Also, Florida is definitely on my top list. People from Jersey..yup. New York...

Atlanta drivers are terrifying..especially on 16 lane highways...playing Russian Roulette with your life.

You forgot Chicago...don't even let me get started, but a middle finger and thorough use of the horn are fairly common...

i'm hearing a lot of east coast states. i just moved from the washington d.c. area to texas and let me tell you, with the exception of diplomats texans are possibly the craziest people out there. at least east coasters know how to manuever vehicles. i may be fast, but i sure as hell am not reckless. texans are either incredibly slow or have road rage (perhaps due to the extensive heat?) AND stats show that almost 1/2 of all drivers in the state do not have insurance...

I used to live in Newport, and I agree with you that Rhode Island drivers are some of the worst. However, Americans have nothing on the Italians.

Driving in Italy is certainly an adventure. I always find myself clutching my chest in Europe when in a car!

I was brought up in Maine, where calling someone a "Massachusetts Driver" was considered one of the ultimate insults! Having lived there, I would agree that one should really be legally blind and have suicidal tendencies to get a MA license. Dittos with PP re:Italy...and being driven on the Autobahn was a real experience, too!
