Welcome to the Fall !!!!

Ok, I know there is a lot of people out there in preppy land very upset that the summer is over; however the changing seasons just mean more challenges to live the preppy life!

I was surfing this am and saw a few people out there talking about the summer end and the packing away of clothes. I too was thinking of this. So, here are a few things that are being put at the end of the closet (unless we have a Summer in January party again!). First the Nantucket Reds are being washed and stored away. With them go the madras, and the flip flops. I know some people wear flip flops later in the year but it's time to call it quits. Labour Day is the end of the Summer and with it the tradition says time to put away the white shoes. (I do not have any white shoes, but the white/light pants/shorts etc should be stored for Memorial Day. One thing that hit the garbage this morning was the sailor rope bracelet.

Now, people think that wearing white after Labour Day is ok now. Maybe it is, but I'm a classic guy and I think some rules should not be broken. As for drinks, I still have a little Tanqueray left as well as a few limes so the G&T's will still be flowing (although in the privacy of my own home, not at the pubs). I'll also call it an end to the Cape Codders and the Margaritas. SAD DAY!! However, now we can officially relaunch Martini Time : Boy do we love a good Martini!

So what are you saying goodbye to as the seasons change???

Sad day indeed!! I do love the Fall --but this year, I am just not ready for it, yet!

I have washed my white pants/shorts & moved the madras & Lilly-wear to the back -- I still have my flip flops out -- which I will continue to wear them around the house/yard until the temps drop below 55! I have busted out the driving mocs & loafers. I am refusing to put away my bermuda shorts, but have taken out my cableknit sweaters -- as the mornings & evenings have been a bit crisp!! Ah, I do love the early Fall - shorts, polos, a sweater & some mocs :)

As for the cocktails, I am yet to find one to replace my summery G&Ts - I can't seem to LOVE a martini - suppose a gin martini may suit me better?? I tend to switch to wine - which I gravitate towards the red wines in the Fall/Winter, but I would like to find a more cozy cocktail!!

Cheers to Fall --

Sad day today... (1) closed up the house in Newport yesterday, (2) said goodbye to my sailboat for the season (she comes out of the water early Oct but doubtful we'll see her before), and (3) put away the white bucks and seersucker suits.

Fall in Boston is beautiful but cold and short...followed by our 8-month winter.

Tod -

I am born and bred in Darien, CT. Lifelong member of Wee Burn Country Club. Steve Zangrillo, the owner of Darien Sport Shop, knows me on sight.

I have to say, after stumbling upon your blog, that I think you are a pathetic poser. You come across as a wanna-be. NO self-respecting Fairfield County "prepster" would have a BLOG about being preppy unless he was
a) trying to fit in to a culture in which he didn't belong, or
b) he's gay.

Which are you?

Ouch, that was not nice. I just figured I'd answer you anyway.
No I'm not a "poser" and I'm not gay.

I'm just having fun. If you are so offended I suggest you delete the link.

Tod, Don't you just love these rude anonymous comments? I got my fair share of them yesterday too. Kind of makes you feel like you are no longer a blogging virgin, no?
I love that you give it right back to them!

rules are meant to be broken...if you like margaritas then drink them even if it is 20 degrees outside. As for the G&T's that is not a "summer "drink. I live in Boston, and I own a party planning company ( mostly P.R. stuff ) and darling, its okay! I am actually excited for the fall. I love fall clothes thy are more "put together "if you ask me...and i love the changing of the leaves! Happy fall everyone, Taylor

It's great that Steve Z knows you on site, hot shot. Congrats...and congrats on sharing that with everyone on this blog. Any self-respecting person knows it is impolite to do what you just did on here. If you dont like the blog or think Tod's a poser, ignore it. If you want to rudely trade words, you have weak character...or are gay. Which is it?

These types of comments always make me laugh. It is so great to be able to laugh rudeness off and go about your day. Tod, you know I think you are just fine the way you are. Kiki

white shoes and white dresses.

The flip-flops stay on until my toes freeze.

The white shoe thing is the worst...it is NOT ok to wear after labor day.
