Preppy Guy's Must Haves (part I)

Preppy Guy's Must Haves (part I): Saying part one because I know we will need to add to it in the future...

Preppy Guy's Must Haves: (in no particular order)
*Blue Blazer (either gold buttons or plain)
*Docksiders from Sperry
*Tod's driving shoe (no relation)
*Argyle sweater
*Engraved Leather Dop Kit
*Cuff links (The choices are endless); Kelly suggested monogram's (VERY good idea)
*Nantucket Reds
*A bespoken suit (every man needs a blue and grey)
*What goes with the suit? that's right pocket squares! (Just never match it with the tie, if you are not sure go with old fashion white)
*A Tuxedo (you may not need it everyday, but wouldn't be fun too)
*A Jeep (Preppies of all ages love the rugged Jeep)
*a few good ties, I personally love vineyard Vines
*A bunch of colourful polo shirts (must have pinks and greens and blues) and don't be afraid to wear more than one at at time
*Classic Oxford shirts
*Fun belts (whales, lobsters, sailboats, etc)
*Golf accessories (an endless supply of gift ideas)
* monogram's Bar glasses
*Flip flops (vineyard vines makes the best; even my wife Muffy loves them)

What do you think? I know there are many many other ideas I just wanted to get something out to get the ball rolling....Tod

I would add Bermuda shorts in: khaki or madras. If they are broken in that is even better.

Whale pants!

Two Nantucket brothers - the grandsons of the man who invented Nantucket Reds - just started a line of preppy embroidered shorts, pants and skirts called Castaway Clothing. You can get it them Murray's Toggery (of course) or online.

Keep those ideas coming...

In the spirit of monogrammed bar glasses that were mentioned monogrammed Tervis tumblers are wonderful.

Great list so far--so many preppy ideas!

Isn't VV just the best?! My husband and all the groomsmen wore their ties for my wedding last August. (Beach Chair in yellow, went so nicely with the blue blazers). And I am in love with VV totes and flip flops!

My favorites are the MV Signs. The Whale Flops are a close second. And Clipper829 is right-so comfortable!

Wait, I have to vote no to the jeep. My bones don't want to be bounced around anymore. My vote for preppy cars are... BMW(personal choice) & Volvo. Jag's for the gray haired preps and a VW cabriolet for the Muffy in your life.

Muffy and i actually have 2 BMW's, but boy do I miss my Jeep...The baby stroller? The boot fits a few golf bads quite nice...remember the stroller period will only last a momment, a bad decision (like buying a minivan) can last years...

Swim trunks. A man has to have a good pair of swim trunks -- preferably from Vineyard Vines. :-)

I drive a VW Jetta wagon, the navy blue one (um, I'm a girl not a guy, sorry...) and I love it. It's not flashy-trashy like an SUV, and if it gets dinged up, well that's okay. Next car will either be another Jetta wagon or a Volvo wagon.

And if you don't have a pair of Lilly Pulitzer pants for men, well, how can you live with yourself. :-)

Great blog!!

My better half and I have the BMW M5 & the Lexus RX350(hers). I loved the X5 but she wanted RX for more room and "better" saftey features.
I think the larger X5 with the 3rd row will be in our Garage as well

Hubby and I used to both drive Jeeps (a cherokee and a grand). We miss them terribly. Next car will be another Jeep. We also bought many Jeep baby items for the kids. LOVE 'EM.

I might also add a pair of LL Bean camp mocs to go along with your Sperry topsiders. Nice list!

Excellent prep car for a full house: Land Cruiser.

Other must-haves: faded D-ring belt with your yacht club burgee.

If you have Lilly pants or your Dad's/uncle's Lilly blazer, you are a beast.

Favorite prep rides:
- 90s-era Range Rover County LWB
- 90s-era Land Cruiser
- Audi sedans (should have a ski rack)
- Jeep Grand Wagoneer
- Audi All-Road
- 90s-era Jag coupes (unreliable but very key)
- Volvo wagons

Don't forget the Costa Del Mar sunglasses. Oh, and I drive a 4Runner Limited in Silver, it's considered to be a pretty preppy ride, at least for a college student.
