Seeing a lot of action recently on Groupon and Living Social. I even signed up to get the email alerts...

I wonder if a lot of people are really using them? I know I am tempted every time I get one-although not sure I really need Rumba lessons 1/2 price...For me some of them are more exciting because I commute to NYC. The Suburban online coupons are not as good yet--Side note FourSquare is starting to have great deals in and out of the city!!

I know many people who bought the first iPad and they all love it. It is now proven to be a game changer, and the begining of the end of laptops. Soon nobody will carry big bulky laptops (never thought we would call laptops bulky) but instead just an iPad and some cables....

When I was out skiing with the family over Christmas break I got a nice email from Amy over at Preppy Vines. She and her crew have followed their true love, making wine!

As many of you may know I follow one of my loves, drinking wine (LOL), so I thought I'd bring their information to you...

I have not have the pleasure of trying one of the two varieties yet. But with names like Preppy Vines Pinot Noir and Popped Collar Pinot they are worth a try, don't you think?

Gift Ideas Help Needed

So since the easy stuff of Vineyard Vines or Brooks Brothers is off the table, lets all think of some additional ideas:

One that I like a lot is a monogrammed flask. As it is getting colder this is the perfect gift for those snowy nights!!! And fun to share.

- Other ideas include cigars with a travel holder for 2 or three cigars.

- If your man does not have his own martini set, one would assume he would by 32, that is a great gift.

- how about a trip, just the two of you to someplace you have not been; DC/Georgetown by train perhaps?

- I will continue to think of new ideas, but I always love to ask any blog readers to leave comments and help too...

We all hear it, "wow it's too hot today", these are the same people who bitch in the winter there is too much snow!

Come on, if you are blessed (YES! BLESSED) enough to live in a place that has four seasons embrace it and LOVE it. New England in my humble option is THE best place in this country to get the most of the four seasons. STOP FINDING ANOTHER REASON TO BITCH!

Don't get me wrong, I am not a fan of oppressive heat and humidity OR so cold in the winter we can't ski or even walk outside. But those days only last a few in a row-the rest are regular seasonal changes.

Enough of my bitching at the bitching tonight, what do you think???

Pink & Green Wedding

A reader of the blog emailed me that she is getting married soon and having a pink and green wedding. She asked for some help on some ideas; focusing more on cocktails than flowers I believe LOL

So I send a few suggestions (Email below): Please use the comments section to give your ideas=== anything you think the happy couple could use!!!

WOW, that will be so much fun. For cocktails the first thing that comes to my mind is the Cape Coder (more vodka to make it pinker LOL)for green anything with Midori in it can get the color, but here are some quick ideas

Apple Martini

Midori Cosmo

green carnation

Green Swizzle
Juice of 1 lime
1 teaspoon icing sugar
soda water
2 dashes bitters
2 oz white rum
1 tablespoon crème de menthe (green) Shot of Creme de Menthe (called Mint Frappe)

Green Tequila
1½ oz tequila
¾ oz melon liqueur
Squeeze of lime
Lime to garnish

Another idea is to have mint frozen in the ice cubes!

Other Pink cocktails:
Razmopolitan

Pink lemonade with Vodka

The Cosmo!

Pink Lady
1 1/2 oz gin
3/4 oz applejack
1/4 oz lemon juice
1-2 dashes grenadine
1 egg white

I know there are dozens more! I would stay away from the green food dye in the beer and probably have bottles of Heineken, Becks and Grolsh

Must Have for Preppy Men

The list went from needlepoint belts (love them) to the standby Top-Siders and even LL Bean bag (not sure a "must have" but good).

I think all these are great and a fun site.

Guys, preppy or not, please stop the new trend I have seen around this summer ....

Crocs for adults....NOOOOOOO!!!!

I think flip flops from men are great, as long as they are VV or Polo , etc----Sandals are not flip flops and Crocs are worse...I even saw a guy wearing crocs with socks...HELP please!!!

I know I may not be the best dresser, however Crocs on adults should make anyone shiver

"I love clothes but I borrow almost everything," she explained. "I love preppy, classic looks and menswear. It's great that men's Oxford shirts have made such a comeback. Also, like any other woman, I love Christian Louboutin heels - they are to die for."

Although she loves fashion, Kristen has made her fair share of fashion mistakes. She can't believe some of the outfits she used to wear, and does all she can not to look at the pictures from her early career.

Kristen is as careful about her beauty regime as she is with her clothing choices. She has dry skin so won't use abrasive moisturisers, and has also decided against invasive procedures.

"I like hyaluronic acid. I also believe in light therapy where you sit under red or blue lights that are UV safe. The stimulation of the lights can help regenerate skin cells and produce more collagen.

"Over the next eight weeks your skin regenerates," she explained to Look magazine.

Looking for more fun blogs, Got this one via Twitter. Still not sure if this Twitter thing is for me, I update a bunch then get busy with real life not this Preppy Persona. Of course I follow as many fun people as possible, but I can't keep up with all the posts.

Most of them are great, I learned about new sailing regattas as well as fashion conversations. Guess I will stick with it as best as I can. It is a little information overload...

Let me school you about preppies

So the Bravo cable channel has given us “NYC Prep,’’ the ludicrous reality show about spoiled rich kids, most of whom attend Upper East Side private schools. Excuse me while I examine my cuticles.

The show has nothing to do with preppies. Real preppies would have nothing to do with it. They’d be laughed out of New Canaan at the mere thought of participating in it. Their parents would disown them.

The kids in the show are nouveaux riche airheads who talk endlessly about shopping. Think Valley Girls and Boys moved east. What they have none of is class.

Worse, this Bravo mess (which airs Tuesdays at 9) misses the essence of preppy culture. The name “preppy,’’ lest we forget, comes from prep schools. And prep schools are, in the cultural sense I’m talking about, boarding schools - not country day or Upper East Side privates. It was on boarding school campuses that true preppies were spawned. The petri dish in which the culture was created and perpetuated was the prep school dormitory.

It is there that one was introduced at a young age to a “Lord of the Flies’’ insular existence that defies description. Essential friendships were forged and enemies made in prep school dormitories. It is where you were introduced to hall hockey and a particular strain of sarcasm.
Preppies are timeless. Wait long enough, and they’re in vogue again. They have never changed. Everyone else has. This speaks to a sense of security on their part rather than a lack of imagination. They never went through their Dolce & Gabbana phase.

Preppies gave America the sport coat - an advance on par with the wheel - and pioneered the blue blazer. They gave us khakis - and they really are pronounced like “car keys’’ in Southie - along with polo jerseys, the two-button suit, button-down collars, the list goes on. To dismiss this as preppy is to miss the point. We’re talking classic, conservative men’s clothes.

When the Gap started push ing khakis over a decade ago, I’d see billboards with the coolest of the cool - Miles Davis - in khakis. Jazz legends like Davis and Chet Baker, I have on good authority, wore preppy clothes. They didn’t buy them because they were preppy - they had never heard of the word - but they liked the understatement of the clothes after the loud outfits in jazz that had preceded them.

I write about preppies from the remove of decades after my own boarding school experience, which I thoroughly enjoyed. But prep school culture has changed dramatically since then. The robust multiculturalism on today’s boarding school campuses, fueled by institutional wealth unavailable in public schools, has replaced the negativity that used to dominate prep school culture.

Today, there is an ethos to do good, here and abroad, among the good boarding schools that was nonexistent in the old days. You’re more likely to see kids from Ghana and India at the big affluent places like Andover and Exeter than flaxen-haired lacrosse players from Locust Valley.
Whatever allure in preppies there may be now is anchored in the past. It speaks to an old world of exclusion and exclusivity, of final clubs and blackballs, of pumps with black tie and the Social Register. (Whatever happened to the Social Register anyway?)

There is a wistfulness to this whole preppy thing that reminds me of Jay Gatsby, Fitzgerald’s great fake who stared into the night at the green light at Daisy Buchanan’s dock across the bay, aching for the woman.

The reigning king of preppy wistfulness remains Ralph Lauren, born Ralph Lifshitz in the Bronx, who has created the ultimate illusionary preppy world. His efforts are nothing if not about a yearning for a past he never knew. His ads relentlessly portray a life of white flannel, wooden tennis racquets, and elegant old cars.

His threads are beautiful, in contrast to parvenus like Vineyard Vines, an upstart that makes clothes for men and women that are parodies of preppiness. J.Crew still answers the bell because it sells smart preppy knockoffs.

The preppy look, it should be noted, is global. When I lived in Italy during the ’80s, I bought a pair of Timberlands in the great city of Bologna, home of the oldest university in Europe. In Italy and France, rich kids wore alligator jerseys with collars up and striped Brooks Brothers button-downs. Ditto for the well-heeled in Latin America.

The choice of preppy clothes among the young and rich abroad had nothing to do with the past. It was simply a matter of style. Remember, it was in France that the alligator jersey (Chemise Lacoste) was born. Countless American kids today want them simply because they look good, oblivious to any larger meaning.

“NYC Prep,’’ ludicrous and dispiriting, has zero to do with the true preppy culture, which means old preppy culture. Love it or hate it, the real thing is pretty much sepia-toned by now. Every once in awhile, marketers will try to sell patch madras or seersucker again. What they’re selling is the past. No one drinks gin and bitters anymore, but who cares?

Love Cigars.....BUT

Full disclosure Preppy Guy loves cigars. I and my mates have one once and a while on the golf course, or I'll grab a nice one on the back deck. Even love taking one along for those long walks in the woods (with a flask of course)! But today reminded me of something I wanted to write about for a long time.

I was walking to the office this morning early, most of the street was deserted and there he was- a guy hanging outside smoking a cigar. As we have all gotten used to seeing the cigarette smokers all huddled in their groups grabbing a quick "fix" before the run back to the corporate world, but a cigar?

Cigars to me are a relaxing thing, never hurried. I and most men I know use the cigar as major down time, even sometimes the only downtime in this crazy world. So why would you turn something like that into a "ciggy break"? Most good cigars take 20 mins or more to smoke, could this guy really stand on the corner in NYC for that long? And how relaxing is watching taxis speed past you as people bump you on their way to work? A little jack-hammering with your cigar sir?

A whole other thing, a cigar in the early morning ? Your mouth will fee like an ashtray the whole day!

The All-American Back From Japan

AS you have surely noticed, all- American preppy style has come back for another goround. There is madras everything, button-downs everywhere. Nantucket reds — washed-out pink pants — are the new khakis; Sperry Top-Siders are more common on roof decks than top decks; and the Polo pony and the Lacoste crocodile are now but two of the critters in a zoo of polo shirt insignia.
Lately the trend has taken on a new dimension, via the Internet, with a resurgence of interest in once obscure American brands. Alongside the familiar L. L. Bean duck boots, Brooks Brothers shirts and Ray-Ban Wayfarers, there are Filson duffel bags, Gokey boots, Alden dress shoes, Gitman oxford shirts, Quoddy Trail moccasins, Wm. J. Mills canvas totes — to name but a few. Moribund brands like Southwick and Woolrich are being revived with new designs. And the old-school look has been furthered by popular American fashion labels — small houses like Thom Browne, Band of Outsiders and Benjamin Bixby along with megabrands like J. Crew and Ralph Lauren.
As fashion moments go, this is as all-American as it gets, right?
Actually, no. What makes today’s prepidemic so fascinating is how it is, surprisingly enough, so Japanese. The look has its roots in the United States, to be sure. But the spirit, rigor and execution of today’s prep moment is as Japanese as Sony. One need only flip through the intriguing Japanese book “Take Ivy,” a collection of photographs taken in 1965 by Teruyoshi Hayashida on Eastern college campuses, to get the drift.
“Take Ivy” has always been extremely rare in the United States, a treasure of fashion insiders that can fetch more than $1,000 on eBay and in vintage-book stores. But scanned images from the book have been turning up online in recent months. Ricocheting around the network of sartorially obsessed Web sites and blogs (like acontinuouslean.com and thetrad .blogspot.com), it has aroused renewed interest for its apparent prescience of preppy style. (In the United States, the word preppy came into popular use only in 1970, thanks to the best-selling book and top-grossing movie “Love Story”; and the full flowering of preppy style would not arrive until 1980 with the best-selling “Official Preppy Handbook.”)
But “Take Ivy” was not prescient; it was totally timely, having been commissioned by Kensuke Ishizu, who was the founder of Van Jacket, an Ivy Leagueobsessed clothing line that was a sensation among Japanese teenagers and young men in the early 1960s. Mr. Ishizu was a kind of Ralph Lauren avant la lettre.
“You could have called it a Van look,” recalled Daiki Suzuki, the designer and founder of Engineered Garments (channeling vintage workwear) and the designer of the revamped Woolrich Woolen Mills line (channeling 1950s New England). He remembers “Take Ivy” from his childhood in Japan and how the Ivy look, as it is generally called there, became basic in the ’70s and ’80s, as the craze for American things like Levi’s and Red Wing boots accelerated. In 1989, Mr. Suzuki moved to the United States to work for a large Japanese store scouting for new American designers and obscure brands to import, like White’s Boots from Washington, Russell Moccasin from Wisconsin and Duluth Pack backpacks from Minnesota.
“It’s funny — this authentic Americana, people in the States didn’t care about it at all,” Mr. Suzuki said. “But I would take it back, and everybody would say, ‘Wow, this is really great, what is this?’ Now it’s different. People here like it now.”
HE would know. In 1999, once the Internet began eroding the specialness of his small “Made in the USA” finds, he founded Engineered Garments with the idea of updating vintage American pieces for modern tastes, and for five years he sold the line only in Japan. In the last couple of years Americans have come around, and now the line is a hot seller at Barneys New York.
As curious as this American-export style of business sounds, it is not unusual. Post Overalls, a Japanese- owned line based (and made) in America since 1993, started selling here only this spring. J. Press, the venerable Ivy League clothier founded in New Haven in 1902 and bought by the Japanese fashion giant Kashiyama in 1986, has four modest stores in this country — in Cambridge, Mass.; New Haven; New York; and Washington — but sells roughly six times as much as American made J. Press merchandise in Japan at department stores like Isetan.
The Japanese penchant for Americana is not merely a story of economics; it is a matter of style. It has not been unusual for Japanese men to wear the Ivy look in head-to-toe extremes once unthinkable here — say, a blazer, tie, plaid shorts and knee socks. But given the zeal for American designers like Thom Browne and Scott Sternberg of Band of Outsiders, who tinker with old-fashioned Americana (and whose lines are made in the United States and are very popular in Japan), extremism is finally becoming fashionable here. A column in this month’s GQ by a to-the-boatshoe- born Cape Codder even inveighs against the trend, labeling it a case of arrivistes going overboard. But whose Ivy look has the more valid claim?
Mr. Suzuki remembers the first time he met Mr. Browne, when they were both starting their lines. “He was wearing a gray suit, button-down shirt, tie, cashmere cardigan and wingtips,” he recalled. “I remember thinking, ‘I’ve never seen an American dress in such Japanese style.’” Mr. Browne is flattered. “It’s amazing,” he said. “The Japanese get the whole perfect American thing better than Americans. They understand that it’s an identifiable style around the world, this American look. We think we appreciate it, but we really don’t, not like they do.”
But that’s changing. Not long ago, men scoffed at dress shorts, let alone wore them to work. Now, they are a summer norm, along with seersucker suits, ribbon belts and horn-rimmed glasses. While some men still prefer it low-key — plain boat shoes, a faded Lacoste shirt with jeans or a khaki suit with a madras tie — even full-on Japanese prep — blue blazer, button-down, bermudas, loafers — can look good if you have the attitude to carry it off.
As fascinating and confusing as this cross-pollination is, the story of ostensible outsiders borrowing from and bettering the holy tartan has an august history. Brooks Brothers, the country’s oldest operating men’s clothier, and the venerable Ray-Ban brand are owned by the Italian Del Vecchio family. Erich Segal, the author of “Love Story,” and Lisa Birnbach, who put together “The Official Preppy Handbook,” are Jewish, as is Scott Sternberg of Band of Outsiders (who this week won the Council of Fashion Designers of America award for men’s wear, in a tie) and, of course, the look’s most famous exponent, Ralph Lauren. And, by the way, those two most prep fabrics, gingham and seersucker, came to the United States, via Britain, from India.
André Benjamin, a k a André 3000, the designer of the bright Ivy-inspired Benjamin Bixby line (perhaps the only celebrity line with a truly fresh viewpoint), grew up in Atlanta amid the preppy boom of the ’80s and early ’90s. He remembers how schoolmates spent their money on clothes and cars, wearing two or three polo shirts at a time and fetishizing prepmobiles like the Volkswagen Cabriolet.
“I can’t speak for how it’s been taken up in Asian community,” he said, “but in the black community, you’re always striving to rise above. Most black kids don’t even go to college, and you just hope you can will yourself to get there.
“Like a lot of things, the myth is greater than the actual thing. The WASPy lifestyle, with the parents and traditions, it looks great, but appreciating it from the outside brings a whole different perspective. Ralph didn’t come from it, either. It’s all about having your own twist.”
To Mr. Benjamin, the most appealing part of the old prep look was not its WASPiness but its suggestion of an easy, well-dressed freedom from anxiety, the same entitled naïveté of Oliver Barrett IV, the WASPy Romeo of “Love Story.”
“This golden age of Ivy League style we’re talking about — the blue blazers, the chinos, the sweatshirts, the tweed jackets — what I like is that it’s a look without looking like you thought about it. It looks like you care, but you don’t care.”
Of course, as one of the world’s best and most colorfully dressed men, Mr. Benjamin cares deeply, and it shows in his clothes, as it does in all the new prep gear. And so what if it does? It may not be true of love, but as any boarding-school student can tell you, preppy means never having to say you’re sorry.

I assume most of you out there remember the big move by Coke to make "new Coke". How the country rebelled and then the company came back with "Coke Classic".

Well I was on a flight the other day an took a Coke as the beverage. It tasted different, better. Then I looked at the can, from the UK and it had sugar in it...not the high fructose corn syrup in the US Coke.

It reminded me of a trip a few years back to Europe when I figured out the greatest bait and switch in US history. Coke promised to give back the original Coke, but they gave us a different one with high fructose bah, bah, bah...not even mention that the new additive may be bad for you too...

I don't drink soda often, but I really enjoyed the good ol' sugar drink...

Guess I need to go to Europe more...

Anyone who walks in a major metro area, or in any place where a lot of people are found, hopefully can agree with this pet peeve.

THE BLACKBERRY/CELL-PHONE WALK

You know what I mean, the people who are walking down the street texting/emailing/surfing the net. Now full discloser I am a crackberry addict too (Muffy wife was getting miffed at me so i got her one too, no she's hooked-post for another day). These people may be the same that can't walk and chew gum! As the head down the street, or up the stairs or in the mall they start working their phones/PDA's and guess what??? They slow to a crawl!!

I mean REAL slow, and the worst part is they don't even know it...It's like a traffic jam on the street, for no reason. I can't tell you the times I almost run people over as they doddle down the main streets. I wish I could just blame tourist, or women, or men, or young, etc...It's an equal opportunity problem..

People, you need to read that important message, trust me I understand, just either move to the side or at least be aware of the crowd bottle necking behind you...

With winter showing it's strength this past weekend, It's time to start thinking about how to get to grandma's house for Christmas dinner, or hopefully to the mountains for skiing!

With the fall in oil prices, the pump price for regular gas is back to a reasonable level. Anything under the crazy level last year and this past summer is good in my mind. So, we can get our big heavy SUV's out again and play in the snow....

The old standby of the Chevy Suburban always comes to mind, however we have a friend who is in love with their Lexus ...Never owned one, does anyone else think it is good in the New England snow, ice?

These "shoppers" (I call them criminals) pushed the doors right off the hinges. Even when the police came to assist the downed man, the crowds push over the policemen.

What is wrong with people? Do we really believe in this economy there will not be another sale on those stupid electronics or bed sheets , or whatever as Christmas gets closer? I am willing to bet that the prices the week before Christmas will be cheaper!

Nantucket Reds

With Memorial Day weekend coming upon us, I know most people are gone by Thursday, I thought I'd mention one of my favourite things of the Summer: wearing my reds.

As most people know you can get "reds" from lots of places these days, J Crew; RL; even Target. I am particular to the original from Murray's on Main Street on Nantucket. They developed the Reds and still have the best (in my humble opinion). I love putting on an old pair that is broken in an has that nice washed colour.

I believe Murray's even ships to anywhere in the USA so there is no reason not to give the original a try...I'd suggest to save on shipping by just planning to stop by their store when you are on vacation. :)

How to Be a Preppy Guy

Looking like a prep is one thing, and many tips out there are directed towards preppy girls. But here's a guide specifically on how to be a preppy guy.

Steps

Wear brand name clothes such as Polo, J. Crew, & Brooks Brothers.

Have a comfortable but clean look. Find classic looking belts, preferably brown or black. Make sure the belt is leather if it is a dress belt, and canvas with leather tips if it is for casual occasions.

Wear leather moccasins or Clark's in the winter, and boat shoes or leather flip flops in the summer.

Pick a scent and stick to it. Don't use different scents of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, aftershave, deodorant and cologne. Buy a matching set.

Have simple hair

Keep your lips moisturized. Chapped, cracked lips are unsightly.

Be fresh and neat. Have clean, trimmed fingernails. Shave and comb your hair as often as you need to. Don't wear wrinkled or stained clothes.

Do something to make yourself known even if it's just getting in with one preppy guy. That one guy could really carry you far.

Slightly messed up hair is preppy, as is just the regualar combed back.

Be in some kind of sport like lacrosee, rugby, or tennis. You should stay fit as possible.

Be friendly and outgoing

Also remember to keep your grades up, preferably 3.3 GPA at minimum and above, because preps are also known as being smart and hard working on top of their looks and lifestyle.

Tips

Preps are known for their clothes and for having a lot of friends. Throw a party for no reason every so often.

Walk into any 'preppy' labled store [Polo Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, Brooks Brothers, etc.] and check out the clothing. Note patterns in the style, cut, and colors. That's what you want to be wearing.

Warnings

There are people who don't like preps. Beware of haters. They'll try and prank on you or embarrass you.

Just keep cool with people and you're all right. Sometimes preps do become friends with other social groups.

Blackberry Addicts

Is it my imagination or is everyone addicted to their blackberries? I now find when I'm out to dinner people will check their machines in the middle of a conversation. I love my blackberry and I know I must look a little like those people to non-crackberry addicts; however unless I am waiting for some important news (and I would tell that to the people I was dinning with) I can wait to check the blackberry until later. (I think)

As I said I am no anti-tech freak. The exact opposite, I love the stuff. But, when you are at a dinner with friends or colleagues do you need to look at it ALL NIGHT LONG? I admit if I'm out during the day, even for lunch I'll look at it during the meal. During the day is normal; you are away from the office and need to keep in touch.

I want to say a few more things, but my blackberry is buzzing and I need to get it. So ignore everything I just said...I'm an addict too!!!

So first it's unseasonably warm and every nut with a tv camera is out screaming about global warming. Now it's so cold (with no real snow yet) that we can't even go outside. All the preppy pups are stuck inside and ripping up everyone's furniture. The little preps are just pissed because they can't make a snowman yet. Mom and dad preps can't even show off their argyle sweaters (they need to many layers).

What should we do? This has been such a crazy winter. Please send us a big snow storm so at least we can go out and play...Boy I sound like an eight year old...

Wow, do the little ones love Christmas! The kids are still playing with their toys under the tree...It brings back happy memories of my own childhood, sitting around in my pj's with the siblings all Christmas day...then the suit up and off to visit aunts, uncles and cousins (it was ok because we could use their new toys too).
With this warm and rain spell the typical Christmas break ski trip is off. (I know a few people "rock skiing" in VT &NH, fun in March; not fun in December).

Off to make a plan B to keep kids occupied...

Wow is it really this warm out? I, like most people, love the idea of a white Christmas. However, it looks like this year in the NorthEast we will be having a spring Christmas!!

So what are the geniuses at the BCS computer room going to do now? With Pete Carroll's USC losing last night it is going to make the bowl selections loads of fun; and I'm sure a lot of people are ggoing to be pissed and will never be happy with the controversy. Is a play-off the answer for the NCAA Football? I'm not sure; but is a computer the picking the top teams the answer?

OK; so as I've said before I watch this tv show "how I met your mother" . It was on last night and they had a plot that one of the characters had an ugly secret from their past...It turns out that one of them was a teen idol in Canada in the early 90's. She had one hit and had to travel to every Canadian mall to sing the song...Funny video

Watch it and it will bring you right back to the 80's (not sure if that's good or bad; you decide)

Wow. Somehow I got to the computer and started writing...I was entertaining a few visitors yesterday and last night then we headed out to dinner; my first thought "where is my warm weather?" It was mid 60's for the past few weeks then yesterday it felt like fall had taken over and the winter frost is coming soon. I love the winter; but I was getting spoiled by the nice weather (even getting away with shorts on occasion). Now as Thanksgiving approaches I need to start thinking about salt for the stairs and shovels...

Thanks to everyone who gave me feedback on switching to the newer version on blogger. I am still 50/50. I love technology and am usually never afraid to upgrade, try new things etc. So I do not know why I am so unable to move onto this new software...what's next afraid to use my blackberry?

Off to enjoy the crisp Sunday morning and hopefully cocktails by noon!!! Get outside and enjoy it too...

OK, so I've been pretty busy and REALLY bad keeping up posts in the last few weeks. However, I thought to myself I'm not that bad. Then I looked back on my last few posts; only on a Thursday (some may think I'm in some sort of prison that only allows access to computers on Thursdays) what's up with that? I really have no idea; I don't think I'm really that much more busy than anyone else or myself at most points in my life. OH WELL...anywho I was signing on this am and this BLOGGER BETA pop ups came in front of me. I have no idea what the beta is. Does anyone? I know a few of my favorite blogs now have some sort of sign on to get to it; I have to admit I have no idea what sign on and password they are looking for! Sorry LillyandLemon I have not been able to read you in a while.

So I'm soliciting help: Can anyone out there tell me if and WHY I should "upgrade" to this beta? Being conservative I hate change!

Crazy Life

Will someone please tell me when this crazy life is going to slow down? I feel like I do not even have 10 minutes a day to myself; and when I try to find some "downtime" with a book or stupid TV show the phone rings again! The best was the four days before the election; our house got hit with more "roto-dialer" calls than I thought possible (the best was a pol on a roto-dialer saying he wanted to outlaw roto-dialing!)

I have been remiss in upkeeping the blog (I shall try to be better) I'm sure I can talk for hours on the election, etc...however I'll save that rant for a day or two I think everyone else out there is coving it enough..

Well, my blackberry is buzzing I'll be back soon....

Wow, what a fun night with the two little ones. I made sure I was home to join the on their trick or treating. As most guys it is sometime impossible to get out of the office to come home in time to see the ghosts and goblins running around the town. Last night was actually my first time that I went out with the kids. Sometimes I would get home in time sometimes to give out the candy; however I never got out till yesterday. It is a great time to see your kids jumping up and down, seeing all their friends etc. We should all try to do these little things with our kids (I know I don't do enough) because these silly little things are the biggest things to the kids lives at this point.

Ode to Argyle

I was putting on my argyle socks this morning realizing how much I missed them. Most of the summer we wear no socks with either flip flops or docksiders; now with the cold weather ontop of us it's time to think of socks. Nothing is better than looking down and seeing that great pattern on our calf. I looked in my sock draw today and saw way over a dozen pairs, and I know I have some hidden away in "winter" clothes boxes as well. I think today is a great day for everyone to walk back to their bedrooms and grab a colourful pair of argyles that have been sitting there patiently all summer and talk them for a walk.

I'm sitting here will CNBC on in the background. Does anyone actually watch this channel? I know it's always on at most brokerage firms/trading desks and bars around Wall Street. But they play the same stories over and over and over again all in the same day. One good thing about the channel is they have not fallen to Wall Street's business casual dress code yet. This channel may be the only part of the financial world that does not wear polo shirts to work.

I miss all those suits; it gave the wife and kids something to buy dads for father's dad.

Church and Gambling

So I sitting at the breakfast table this morning finishing my morning papers and I start to think about NFL football. Of course just like every other red blooded American I enjoy the once in while wager on sports (did you see that great Clemson game on ESPN last night) and I've found myself in a couple fantasy football leagues. I actually do ok even though I don't spend days or weeks preparing with mock drafts etc like some in the leagues. So, I'm looking at the actual spreads of today's games and putting in my best guess on the few games (of course wagering is illegal and I would not want to do that, right ;) ) .

Now I've got my game plan together when my Muffy wife tells me to start getting ready for church. Have I forgotten that Sunday is God's day and a day for rest and family? Maybe I should not be thinking about wagering on a Sunday? Somehow I don't think my looking at the lines in the paper or having a friendly wager will bring down western civilization. Maybe that's a better question for the priest?

Anyway, getting dressed to head to Mass and then watch a game on TV(hopefully win a few $)...if this good weather continues today I believe a good cigar and walk with the family will help fill God's plan for the day...

Dress for success

So, as I wrote about recently I have been traveling and unable/or too tired to blog anything out. Also after dinner and drinks and after dinner drinks I don't think too many people would want to read my mixed up thoughts...Including me the next day!

I was taking a plane the other day and it made me remember something my pop said a long time ago "always wear at least a blazer on a plane; you will be treated the way you expect." So I do. Even if I'm stuck in the middle seat in economy class I'm either wearing my suit or blazer to the plane (of course we remove the jacket while we sit; otherwise it gets wrinkled, etc).

The other day While I was getting my boarding pass checked I looked around and started to actually think about what people wear on planes (I know we could talk about how bad people dress all the time, today let's just focus on planes/airports). I saw too many sweat pants/shirts, is there a gym on the plane that nobody told me about? What about those Fanny packs? Here is a hint people THEY NEVER LOOK GOOD! I'm not trying to just bitch about other people, I spied a bunch of guys in jeans and tee shirts or some other type of shirt; honestly it looked fine. Just because I was wearing a suit I do not expect everyone to wear one. However, please look in the mirror BEFORE you leave the house.

I know the response that everyone is going to say; "I want to be comfortable for the long flight". I agree, bring a good book or take a quick nap but you are still in public you should not be wearing slippers in the airport (yes I did see it last week). My flight kind of looked like it was filled with extras from one who flew over the coo koo's nest. I truly believe most American must be colour blind too.. Orange, red and purple (nice outfit).

Road Hog

So, I've been driving a lot recently (see previous post) and I started a mental note of my list of the worst drivers. Now I'm not going to start talking about men vs women; too many people say women are always putting makeup on and mess up driving. To tell you the truth I know quite a lot of men that I would never get in a car with; no guys you can't drive 90 while talking on one cellphone, emailing on your blackberry and drinking coffee...

Anyway I have a list in my head of the worst drivers, by states. I thought I would share them with you readers out there. Now I know some will be pissed off, some will agree and most will not give a &^$) . I also have not seen all the drivers in all the state, so I'm sure there are some other crazes out there (please share).
My list in order of the worst drivers:
1) New Jersey
2) Rhode Island (per capita it would be the worst)
3) Massachusetts
4) Florida
5) New York
6) California
7) Alabama
8) Washington DC (yes I know it's not a state, however they drive so bad they made the list)
9)Pennsylvania
10) Oklahoma

Also, all the provinces of Canada (every time I see a Canuck on the road I do my best to get away)

Crazy week

So I was all set to meet a few buds for a nice big (read lots of steak and wine) dinner in the city. Well with the awful news of the small plane crash into a building in NYC stopped that. First of all, what a shock, I feel badly for the Lidle family and the family of the flight instructor. Secondly all those people who are homeless because of the accident. However, when people in and around NYC see a plane crash into a building, the nightmares of Sept. 11th come rushing back in.
Long story short, I had Italian in a very nice place with two of the guys I was set to meet, it's funny how one thing can change things...

All TV'd out

As I've said before I love sports. I will play golf or tennis, or a pick-up basketball game anytime. I have been watching the baseball playoffs like a made man (yes I'm mad know that the Yankees are out). So I figured today is a great day to spend ALL day outside. I went for a long walk this morning and now I'm checking emails, etc before going out again. My muffy wife told me that a couple we know is in town for the day so we'll hook up with them after lunch and hit the parks. I was thinking about drinking a nice bottle of wine too. I guess my boozing tenancy keep showing through.

The Yankees loss made me think about how some people, some I know well too, take their sports teams WAY too serious. As I've said I love sports; I have spent many a Sundays sitting watching every down of any football game. Or playoff of almost any sport is hypnotic. I really enjoy watching people try to win the championship...Competition is good and it drives us all even if we are watching it. Anyway, as I was saying i know there are people who lost sleep last night and will not go out today because the Yankees lost. They will carry their crap attitude to work tomorrow and yell at someone because of nothing. A police buddy of mine told me he hates to work the Superbowl shift (more domestic violence than usual). It's OK to root for your team; heck if you are not upset when they lose you are not a fan...but it's only a game. fight with your dog and kick your wife over something real not because A-Rod struck out or someone fumbled the game winning opportunity. Life sucks enough, grab a beer and go for a walk today...
